Hi there! My name’s Peter R. Bloomfield, and I’m a computer geek (programmer mostly) working hard to be a (hopefully) respectable PhD student at the University of the West of Scotland, as of September 2008.
As a geek, my area was very much programming of various kinds. I have a 1st Class Honours BSc. in Computer Games Technology, as part of which I gained an insatiable desire for ethereal C++ programming! I’ve also done a lot of web-development work, having been the Lead Developer of the open source SLOODLE project from 2007 to 2008.
As a PhD student, my area of research will be (broadly speaking) educational technology and usability/HCI. More specifically, I’ll be looking at applying User Centred Design in the integration of immersive virtual environments (such as Second Life ®) with web-based learning platforms (such as Moodle).
I’m also a Christian, which means I believe in God and Jesus and the Holy Spirit… and nobody can convince me otherwise! I don’t disrespect science… I actually think science is a wonderful thing, and I totally support science moving in whatever direction seems right according to current theories. I just believe in God more than I believe in the human capacity to necessarily be right!
